Adidas ‘Jabulani’ celebration match ball
Last week’s Friday saw the World Cup draw and also a presentation of the Adidas ‘Jabulani’ the official match ball of the 2010 World Cup by FIFA.
The word ‘Jabulani’ is found in the isiZulu languages (one of the 11 official languages of South Africa) and means “to celebrate”. The isiZulu language is spoken by almost 25 percent of the population in South Africa.
This official ball features a representational design of the 11 players in every team, the 11 official languages of the country and the 11 South African communities. The design was inspired by the existing South African culture; one of the most ethnical and culturally diverse countries on the African continent.
The ball consists of eight thermally bonded 3-D panels, which are spherically molded and FIFA explained how this new ball has a newly developed ‘Grip’n'Groove’ profile. This profile will “provide the best players in the world with a ball allowing an exceptionally stable flight and perfect grip under all conditions”.
