As we have reached the final of the 2010 World Cup and Paul the Octopus still has a clean track record of predicting Germany's matches the well known octopus reached a new level of fame this week as he got his own page on Wikipedia.

As we have reached the final of the 2010 World Cup and Paul the Octopus still has a clean track record of predicting Germany’s matches the well known octopus reached a new level of fame this week as he got his own page on Wikipedia.

On the Wikipedia page of Paul the Octopus we get to learn a whole bunch of stuff that we didn’t know before (maybe you knew, but we didn’t).

Here are some facts about Paul the Octopus that you probably didn’t know:

Paul the Octopus was born in 2008 at the Sea Life Center in Weymouth, England.

Paul is named after the children’s book “Der Tintenfisch Paul Oktopus” by Boy Lornsen.

Since 2008 Paul have predicted a total of 12 games, 10 out of these has been correct.

Paul’s species is called “Octopus vulgaris”.

An “Octopus vulgaris” usually lives for about three years.

I hope you enjoyed these fun facts about Paul the Octopus and that you have learned something new.

Since the Paul the Octopus is of the species “Octopus vulgaris” which only lives for about three years it is very likely that the predictions for the 2010 World Cup will be his last. It will be interesting to see if the people over at Sea Life Aquarium are going to try to get another octopus to take over the predictions after Paul retires or if they will just give up on the idea to prove that Paul is as special as they say he is.

By now it's old news that Paul the psychic Octopus picked Spain to win the semi final against Germany. But could this be the first time during the 2010 World Cup that the mighty octopus is wrong? We sure think so!

By now it’s old news that Paul the psychic Octopus picked Spain to win the semi final against Germany. But could this be the first time during the 2010 World Cup that the mighty octopus is wrong? We sure think so!

The way these two teams have been playing we are amazed that the online sportsbooks are making Spain slight favorites to win this match. In our opinion it should be the other way around. Sure Germany had a minor hiccup against Serbia but that was a once in a World Cup thing that they quickly recovered from. Spain lost in their opening game against Switzerland and even though they also bounced right back from that they haven’t been as impressive as the young, quick and efficient German team.

So in tonight’s game our money is going against Paul’s prediction and hope that our analytical skills are better than a psychic octopus’ visions.

Paul’s Prediction: Spain to win.

BetOnWorldCup2010.com’s Prediction: Germany to win.

Where will your money be?

The hype surrounding “Paul the Octopus” reached a whole new level on Sunday as some less reliable bloggers released fake pictures showing Paul predicting a Spain win over Germany in the semi final.

The hype surrounding “Paul the Octopus” reached a whole new level of crazy on Sunday as some less reliable bloggers released fake pictures showing Paul predicting a Spain win over Germany in the semi final. People have been going bananas over these fake pictures and it seems like some people actually think they are real. So let us make it very clear. Paul the Octopus has not yet made his prediction for the game between Germany and Spain, the fact that these pictures of him making the prediction was released in the middle of the night between Sunday and Monday (German time) should be proof enough that it was fake.

Usually Paul the Octopus is making his predictions the day before the game takes place and since the match between Germany and Spain is scheduled to take place on Wednesday it’s safe to assume that the prediction will be released tomorrow.

Once the REAL prediction is made public we will publish the REAL pictures along with the REAL video here on BetOnWorldCup2010.com so make sure to bookmark this site and check back for the latest prediction. And remember… If you didn’t read it here, it didn’t happen.

For those of you who are looking to place a bet on Paul’s upcoming prediction we can recommend the online sportsbook BetUS as they accept customers from all over the world.

The octopus that is prediction the World Cup games for Germany has become something of a worldwide celebrity. Apparently he was right in 80% of the games in the 2006 World Cup and so far he has picked the right winner in all of Germany’s matches in the 2010 World Cup.

In the quarter final between Argentina and Germany the octopus predicted that Germany will go through. I wouldn’t put too much confidence in this octopus being able to tell the future though and if you are looking for a “real” preview with predictions for this game we have written one that is posted here (human predictions and opinions only in this post).

If you are looking to do some World Cup betting on this match I would recommend ignoring the octopus prediction and trying to make up your own opinion.

After going a goal down early thanks to some less than strategic defense, the Netherlands were able to score 2 unanswered goals in order to upset the number 1 ranked team in the World; Brazil.

Robinho made a dash straight down the middle of the field and was spotted on a perfect through ball as Dutch defender Heitinga was sucked towards the midfield out of position, But the Netherlands were able to bounce back due to a great corner and then later by some sloppy defense and goalkeeping.

It just wasn’t Brazil’s afternoon, because after their high flying start they sank into a depression and found it very difficult to find any sort of rhythm. And fortunately for the Dutch, it was Stenklenberg’s day as he was forced into making some classy saves in order to keep Holland’s hopes alive. All in all it was an exciting matchup, granted it wasn’t as epic of a showdown as their last meeting in France in 1998, it was a thriller nonetheless.

The Dutch move on to face surprising winners Uruguay who, against the odds beat Ghana in PKs.

It seems that whenever a team has performed badly in the World Cup, it is all ways the coach’s fault. I think that at some point the blame has to be dished out on the players as well. A coach can only do so much, he can tell players where to be, what to do when they receive the ball, and so on and so forth. But it is really up to the individual players acting as a team to get the job done.

For example, if I were a coach and I just tell my players to all run after the ball and whoever has it should just run until they have a shot that will obviously be viewed as awful tactics. But the second those tactics (in some parallel universe) work, I, the coach, am a hero when really I did nothing but tell the kids to play like they did when they were 5 years old.

You see, a coach has a lot of responsibility, and it often times seems that the players are able to shrug their responsibilities off onto the coach. At some point the players have to stand up and admit that they are at fault. I am not saying it is never the coach’s fault, but I am saying it should be a more balanced playing field when it comes to responsibility when things don’t go the way they were planned.

We are now down to the final 8 teams that are going to compete for a place on the semi finals.

I am going to attempt to give some predictions for the quarter final matches along with some World Cup betting for those of you looking to place a wager on the games.

Netherlands vs. Brazil Prediction

Both of these teams have been performing very well so it’s really hard to say who is going to advance to the semi final of these two teams. Brazil are obviously favorites as they always are in the World Cup bet the last couple of years they haven’t managed to reach the final.

I would say that this is going to be a really tight game which will end up a 0-0 or 1-1 draw at full time.

Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals scored at the odds of -150 (1.67, 2/3) at BetUS.

Uruguay vs. Ghana Prediction

I have been very impressed with Ghana this World Cup and they have become one of my personal favorites. Even though I am hoping for Ghana to come through with another miracle win here I have to go with Uruguay when it’s my money on the line.

I have a feeling Uruguay are going to be the team that send Ghana packing from this years World Cup after a 2-0 win at regular time.

Best Bet: Uruguay to win the match during regular time. You get even money on this bet at BetUS.

Argentina vs. Germany Prediction

Both teams have been impressive this year (with the exception of Germany’s game against Serbia). Diego Maradona seems to have created a team them that can really be considered a top challenger for the World Cup title and while Germany were great in their win against England we don’t think it will be enough to beat Argentina here.

Best Bet: Argentina to go through to the finals at the odds of -165 (1.61, 3/5) at BetUS.

Paraguay vs. Spain Prediction

To be honest there isn’t too much to say about this game. The way these two teams have been performing I can’t see Spain losing this game to a team like Paraguay. Don’t get me wrong, Paraguay have been great but I think they are happy with reaching the quarter finals and that’s as far as they will get.

Best Bet: Spain to win at regular time at the odds of -200 (1.50, 1/2) at Betus.

It’s no secret the two football teams don’t really like each other, but Germany and Argentina definitely respect each other when they meet on the pitch.

It’s no secret the two football teams don’t really like each other, but Germany and Argentina definitely respect each other when they meet on the pitch. The two powerhouses are set to kick off in their quarterfinal match at Cape Town on July 3rd.

Most of the bad blood can be traced back to the last World Cup in Germany in 2006 when the host team knocked Argentina out of the tournament in the quarterfinals by beating them 4-2 on penalty kicks. When the shootout ended, all hell broke loose as the teams kicked and punched each other during a melee that also involved team officials.

The two countries had met before in classic World Cup matchups as Germany beat the South Americans 1-0 to win the World Cup final in 1990 in Italy, and Argentina beat them 3-2 to lift the trophy in 1986 in Mexico.

German captain Philipp Lahm basically got the ball rolling on July 1 by calling the Argentines hot heads. He said their players are temperamental and impulsive and don’t know how to lose. Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger said the day before that Argentina doesn’t show any respect for their opponents and the referees and the 2006 brawl hasn’t been forgotten by his teammates. He added that their body language and movement is usually used to try and influence the officials, but his team will have to adjust to it and just concentrate on their own game. Team manager Oliver Bierhoff added the Argentines are provocative and aggressive during games, but are wonderful, friendly people off the pitch.

However, Argentina’s manager Diego Maradona laughed when he heard about the remarks and stated that Schweinsteiger must be getting nervous as Argentina is looking for revenge for the 2006 loss. Argentina’s defender Martin Demichelis stated the best way to deal with the issue is to just win the game. He added that Argentina’s win over Germany in a friendly in March means the Germans likely respect them a little more now.

Lahm admitted his team was looking forward to the match and was tense, but not nervous.

If you want to join in the trash talk leading up to this game you should check out the thread of comments going on in our Germany vs. Argentina preview.

At a first glance you might not think it's worth placing a World Cup bet on tonight's match between Brazil and Chile due to the fact that Brazil are huge favorites to win and the payoff wouldn't be good enough.

At a first glance you might not think it’s worth placing a World Cup bet on tonight’s match between Brazil and Chile due to the fact that Brazil are huge favorites to win and the payoff wouldn’t be good enough. Well that’s what we think at least. We are not brave enough to bet against Brazil even though Chile have been impressive so far. But since we can’t live without out daily World Cup betting fix we will have to find some other stuff to bet on in this game.

This year there is certainly enough prop-bets surrounding the game so that you can’t find value bets in other places that just the outright winner of a particular match. In this post we go over what we think are the best betting odds for the game between Brazil and Chile. If you disagree with us or have any other suggestion for good odds in this game then feel free to post them in the comment section below.

Bet number 1:

Under 2.5 goals scored at the odds of -115 (1.87, 13/15) at BetUS.

Bet number 2:

Under 1.5 yellow cards to be awarded in the first half at the odds of +150 (2.50, 3/2) at Sportsbook.com.

Bet number 3:

Sanchez (Chile) to score at any point of the game at the odds of +400 (5.00, 4/1) at SportsInteraction.

The third bet here is a bit of a long shot but the way Alexis Sanchez has been playing in this years World Cup I wouldn’t be surprised if he would finally manage to find the net.
